JONAPWD Urges Bauchi Govt to Enforce Disability Act in Teachers’ Recruitment

The Bauchi State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has urged the state government to fully implement the Disability Act by ensuring inclusivity in its upcoming teachers’ recruitment exercise.

During a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Alhaji Hamisu Hassan Mohammed, JONAPWD Chairman, Malam Haruna Sa’idu Pali, emphasized the Act’s provision, which reserves 5% of employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He called on the commission to recognize the qualifications of JONAPWD members—degree holders, NCE graduates, and others—who are well-suited for teaching roles. Additionally, he highlighted the acute shortage of teachers in special schools across Bauchi, urging the commission to address this gap in the recruitment process.

In response, Alhaji Hamisu Hassan Mohammed assured JONAPWD that their requests would be given due consideration, acknowledging the significance of inclusivity in employment.
