The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education by sustaining the provision of free application documents for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The initiative, which forms part of JAMB’s inclusive education policy, will be implemented through the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) for qualified candidates intending to participate in the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, made this known during a meeting with key stakeholders at the Board’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
Professor Oloyede reiterated the Board’s resolve to ensure that no eligible candidate is excluded from access to higher education due to physical, sensory, or learning challenges. He stressed that JAMB remains committed to equity and fairness in Nigeria’s admission process.
According to him, beneficiaries of the free UTME application include candidates living with Down Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other recognised disabilities.
“To support persons living with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all eligible candidates in this category. However, such candidates must possess a minimum of five O’Level credit passes obtained in not more than two sittings,” the Registrar stated.
He further disclosed that JAMB would provide audiobooks for blind candidates to improve accessibility and learning outcomes. The audiobooks, he explained, are digital versions of conventional printed materials and will be made available in widely compatible formats, including MP3, WMV, and WMA.
Professor Oloyede noted that the initiative aligns with JAMB’s broader mandate of promoting equal opportunity, inclusiveness, and social justice, assuring stakeholders of the Board’s continued support for candidates with special needs.
