In fulfilment of promise made by Hon Adamu Abba Hassan, Founder/President, Masoyi Foundation, to empower 100 members of the Gombe State Association of the Deaf (GOMSAD) for more productive living, a two weeks intensive skills acquisition training facilitated by the foundation has commenced at Bubayero Primary School, Gombe.
The entrepreneurship training, Inclusive News Network, INN gathered, is meant to equip 100 Deaf members of GOMSAD, 45 orphans and 30 widows drawn from different locations in the State to equip them with business oriented skills for self-reliance.
In his welcome speech during the formal opening ceremony on Saturday, Hon Adamu Abba thanked the trainees for their patience and resolve to partake in the two weeks intensive skills acquisition training.
His words, “I thank you for your cooperation and patience to learn something new and add value to your lives. This is something that, if you pursue zealously, would position you in good stead for self-reliance and transform you from dependent to independent living”.
Adamu however charged the beneficiaries of the empowerment training to remain focused, determined and commited to the course of the skills acquisition training. He maintained that they will eventually reap the fruit of their labours after the event.
Programme Director of the event, Hon Inuwa Jarmiya, when contacted by our reporter, said the empowerment training which started on Saturday 19 March, 2022 will be concluded in April. He noted that the essence of the skills acquisition training is to empower those who suffer from societal neglect, especially the Deaf, orphans and widows. The beneficiaries will learn various business skills to help them fend for themselves and become socially and economically viable.
While responding to requests to air his views on the programme, Chairman of Gombe State Association of the Deaf (GOMSAD), Mr Musa Jauro Julde expressed immense gratitude to management of the foundation for including the Deaf in this crucial empowerment program.
He said, “let me appreciate the president of the foundation, his team members and everyone involved in making sure deaf persons participated in this worthwhile training. The foundation has proved its worth by this act of inclusive involvement of the deaf. We highly appreciate it. This is unlike a good number of other foundations who tend toward segregation instead of inclusion. I therefore use this medium to advise deaf beneficiaries to utilize the opportunities availed by the training to live meaningful and productive lives”.
Skills acquired in the training included computer literacy training, cosmetic production, tailoring, shoe and bag making, shampoo, amongst others.
