The Sauri Growth Initiative for Women and Youths with Disabilities has launched a six-month training in Abuja to empower women with disabilities as climate advocates and budget watchdogs.

Under the WomenLead2030+ project, twenty women with disabilities are learning how to analyse policies, track government budgets, and engage the media to push for inclusive climate action.

Project Manager, Precious Ogbodo, said the initiative aims to close the gaps in climate policies that often overlook women with disabilities. Executive Director, Comfort Ekwo, stressed that they face the harshest impact of climate disasters due to systemic neglect in disaster planning and emergency response.

The training, themed “When Women Lead, Change Follows!” produced Climate Change Budget Scorecard to monitor government spending. SGI says it plans to expand the programme to other states after the Abuja phase.
