The Ekiti State Youth With Disability Network (EKSYWDN) has called on the Ekiti State Government to implement the 5% recruitment quota for Persons with Disabilities stipulated in the Ekiti State Disability Law.
The call was made on Monday, 27th June 2022 as a reminder to the State Government, of promises made to People with Disabilities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Omowaye Seun, a physically challenged person, appreciates the present administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi which signed the State’s Disability Bill into law.
He said “Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the State are waiting in pains for the law to be implemented, he charges Governor Fayemi to implement the law to enhance the 5% recruitment chances of PWDs at the Local Government Service Commission thereby reducing unemployment.
Another person with disability, Bello Adam, who is deaf urged the Governor to implement the 5% employment opportunities for all PWDs in Ekiti State.
He said National Disability bill was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018 and the law stipulated that 5% employment opportunities be given to Persons With Disabilities at Federal, State and Local Government levels in order to ensure PWDs do not suffer.
Mr Bello noted that the reduction of unemployment will bring joy to the PWD community.
The group also said Hon. Ogunrinde Tunde, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability matters and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) leadership have visited the Local Government Service Commission to seek inclusion of PWDs in the ongoing recruitment exercises but nothing has been done to employ any PWD.
EKSYWDN appealed to the State Government not to turn Ekiti State PWDs to street beggars in the name of unemployment.
