Greece Wins Women’s World Deaf Basketball Championship

The Greek women of the national deaf team won gold on Saturday at the 2019 Women’s World Deaf Basketball Championship held in Poland, led by their coach Athina Zerva.

In the final, they beat Lithuania 51-42 to emerge victoriously and confirm their status as the “Dream Team” of Greek basketball. For the last three years, they have dominated the sport.

They won the 2016 European Championship in Thessaloniki and the 2017 Deaf Olympic Games in Samsun, Turkey.

The winning team and points scored in the final:

Chaina (10), Sarakatsani (3), Agagiotou (5), Kotsirea, Spinou (7), Mellini, Verani (1), Voudouri, Katsiafti (10), and Patera (15).(Greek Reporter)
