The Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside his wife and Founder of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, Her Excellency, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo, has presented a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to the Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs, Hon. Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem, in recognition of his dedication to advancing disability inclusion in the state.
Hon. Abdulhakeem, popularly known as Brain Not Legs, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor and the First Lady, describing the gesture as humbling and a clear demonstration of compassionate and inclusive leadership. He noted that the donation reflects the administration’s strong commitment to uplifting and empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Kogi State.
He highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, which has, within a short period, recorded significant milestones in disability inclusion and social welfare.
According to him, over 250 persons with disabilities have been supported with wheelchairs, while another 250 beneficiaries each received white canes, elbow crutches, and armpit crutches. In addition, 50 persons living with albinism were provided with sun protection creams, with all beneficiaries of mobility aids also receiving ₦50,000 cash support to enhance their independence and well-being.
Beyond mobility support, the initiative has provided direct financial empowerment to 250 persons with disabilities and 100 elderly women, each receiving ₦200,000. The empowerment programme, he said, has been implemented across all local government areas of Kogi State and extended to the ward level, ensuring inclusivity, equity, and grassroots participation.
Hon. Abdulhakeem described the intervention as a historic milestone that reflects the inclusive vision of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration and its prioritisation of social justice, dignity, and equal opportunities for all citizens, especially the vulnerable.
He offered prayers for continued wisdom and success for the Governor and the First Lady, while expressing optimism that the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative will continue to expand its reach and positively transform lives across Kogi State and beyond.
