by Inclusive News Network

In a landmark step towards promoting inclusive education, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has announced a 200% increase in scholarship allowances for students with disabilities across tertiary institutions.

The announcement came on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, during the official flag-off of the 2025 Scholarship Payment for Gombe State indigenous students in higher institutions. While all beneficiaries received a 100% increment, students with disabilities got an additional raise, bringing their total scholarship allowance to 200%.

Governor Yahaya’s decision reflects his administration’s deep understanding of the unique financial and accessibility challenges faced by students with disabilities in their academic pursuits. The move also aligns with the principles of reasonable accommodation and inclusive education, consistent with international standards for equity and social justice.

It would be recalled that under Governor Yahaya’s leadership, students with disabilities in state-owned tertiary institutions already enjoy tuition-free education, following the signing of the Gombe State Disability Law in 2024.

This latest policy further cements Gombe’s position as a model of inclusion and progressive governance.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his steadfast commitment to equity, dignity, and opportunity for all, reaffirming his pledge that “no one will be left behind.
