Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has officially flagged off the payment of ₦1.5 billion in scholarship allowances to 18,750 Gombe State students studying in various higher institutions across Nigeria, including persons with disabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Government House, Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya explained that the scholarship disbursement followed a 100% upward review recently approved by his administration to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living and further support students in their academic pursuits.
“This scholarship payment is part of our deliberate strategy to support our younger generation, improve learning outcomes, and empower our youths for a better future,” the Governor stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to education, he added, “Education remains the greatest equalizer. I urge all beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make Gombe proud through academic excellence.”
According to him, both new and returning students are beneficiaries of the exercise, with some receiving consolidated payments covering up to four academic sessions.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also disclosed that persons with disabilities were given additional support packages in recognition of their unique needs, ensuring inclusivity in the state’s scholarship policy.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to make quality education accessible to every citizen of Gombe State, regardless of background, gender, or social status.
In appreciation of his administration’s consistent investment in education and student welfare, representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) presented a special gift to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, describing him as a leader who keeps his promises and restores hope to students.
