In a remarkable display of commitment to education, inclusion, and gender empowerment, the Lateefat Odunuga National Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships worth ₦2.1 million to five students with disabilities at Lagos State University (LASU). The scholarship presentation, held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.
Alongside the scholarships, the Foundation also endowed ₦2 million for the best graduating female students in the Department of Psychology, a move aimed at inspiring young women, encouraging healthy academic competition, and reinforcing the culture of excellence at LASU.
The five awardees — Praise Onoigboria, Dominion Uzoma, Rachel Oladosu, Paul Hunga, and Nosiru Idowu — accompanied by Deputy Registrar of the Disability Support Office, Mrs. Bukola Afolami-Arojojoye, have consistently maintained exceptional CGPAs ranging from 3.71 to 4.35, a testament to their resilience and determination.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, described the initiative as “more than charity, but empowerment and equity in action.” She further commended the endowment for female psychology students as an investment in advancing knowledge critical to mental health and human development.
Delivering her remarks virtually, the donor and LASU alumna, Ms. Lateefat Odunuga, said the project reflects her promise to give back to her alma mater and her desire to empower groups often overlooked. She stressed that the scholarships were not only financial aid but a legacy of inclusivity, excellence, and opportunity for students with disabilities and young women in psychology.
The Director of LASU Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), Prof. Rafiu Okuneye, whose office facilitated the scheme, hailed the initiative as a practical expression of equal opportunity, noting that students with disabilities often navigate extra challenges in pursuit of education.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Praise Onoigboria expressed deep gratitude to the Foundation and pledged, alongside her peers, to uphold academic excellence and serve as ambassadors of the Foundation’s vision.
The well-attended ceremony brought together members of university management, senior officials of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, LASUDA, Legal Unit, Disability Support Office, and the Centre for Information and Public Relations.
