The Stand For Humanity Foundation has settled a N600,000 medical bill for Ndubuisi Duruaku, a visually impaired father, and his wife, Chiamaka, following the birth of their twin daughters in Imo State.
The babies, Akuyoma and Nwakaego, were delivered via Caesarean section on June 1 at TotalCare Hospital, Akwakuma, Owerri North LGA. Unable to pay the bill, the family remained in the hospital for two months despite being discharged medically.
On August 1, the foundation’s founder, journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, intervened, raising the sum within 48 hours through public donations. “We are happy to announce that the twins have gone home after our organisation settled their bill,” Okeoma told The Nation.
In addition to clearing the debt, the foundation donated food supplies, baby formula, diapers, other provisions, and cash to the family. Okeoma praised the hospital for its understanding and care, noting that the surgery required eight units of blood for the mother and babies.
The foundation also pledged continued assistance, including sponsoring the twins’ education when the time comes.
