The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank and partners including Start Innovation Hub, Georgia Consulting, and Crestage Consortium, has launched a digital skills training initiative in Akwa Ibom State.
The program, which started with an orientation session in Uyo for over 2,000 applicants, aims to train 700 individuals in Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity.
This training is part of the Innovation, Development, and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project, led by the Federal Ministry of Education. A key aspect of the program is its commitment to inclusivity, with special provisions made for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
Mr. Hanson Johnson, CEO of Start Innovation Hub, highlighted that the initiative goes beyond training by also linking successful participants to job opportunities.
He also noted the efforts made to fully integrate PWDs into the program. The training spans three months of hands-on experience followed by a three-month internship, designed to equip participants with both technical and business development skills.
Project Coordinator Mr. Ndifreke Patrick encouraged participants to fully engage with the training, while instructors gave an overview of the key areas of focus. Many attendees, including PWDs, expressed optimism about the program’s potential to secure better futures, with PWDs making up over 10% of the participants.
