The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal has urged members of the society to eradicate discrimination and create an enabling environment that acknowledges the talents and contributions of Persons with Disability in Lagos State.
She said this at the graduation ceremony organised by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, where 350 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) were trained and empowered in different vocations such as Hairdressing, Phone repair, Makeup, Gele Tying and Barbing.
Speaking, Mrs Adenike said that PWDs face many challenges from the society and sometimes their families who are meant to be their greatest support.
In her words, “Persons with Disabilities encounter various challenges, including discrimination from society and even their own families, which hinders their growth and development.
I urge our society to rally behind Persons with Disabilities, recognizing their boundless creativity and potential when provided with opportunities. Let us embrace inclusivity and ensure equal opportunities for all, thereby fostering their confidence and enabling them to thrive”, she added
While appreciating the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment for the initiative she advised beneficiaries to make the most of the tools provided to create wealth for themselves and their families.
“I am delighted to witness the active participation of numerous Persons with Disabilities in this program. I am confident that it will serve as a source of inspiration, motivating beneficiaries to strive for excellence and enhancing their contributions to both their families and society.
I extend my sincere commendations to the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Onayele, and all directors and staff for the remarkable success of this initiative” She said.
