More than 300 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Ekiti State have benefitted from a large-scale empowerment initiative facilitated by Hon. Akin Rotimi, a federal lawmaker representing Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency.

The programme, launched in Ado Ekiti on Friday, featured the official flag-off of the Prosthetic Limb Support Project and Empowerment Scheme. A total of 131 beneficiaries living with limb loss were fitted with prosthetic limbs, while an additional 200 PWDs benefitted from the initiative in Oye Local Government later in the day.

Each participant also received a grant of ₦100,000 aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance. According to Rotimi, who also chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, the intervention is designed to restore dignity, mobility, and economic opportunity.

“This goes beyond mobility,” he said. “It provides the means to build sustainable livelihoods and more fulfilling lives.”

Rotimi commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration for prioritising accessibility and creating opportunities for PWDs through employment and inclusive policies.

Also speaking, the wife of the state governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, described the project as “a gesture of love and inclusion,” stressing that it was about restoring dignity and rekindling dreams for PWDs.

The lawmaker has previously appointed over 30 PWDs in his constituency as aides, ensuring stronger advocacy and representation for disability inclusion at the federal level.
