Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of a visually-impaired lawyer, Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, as a Law Officer in the State Ministry of Justice, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to inclusion, equal opportunity, and the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
In a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Governor Okpebholo described the appointment as a clear demonstration that disability does not limit potential. He emphasized that his administration is deliberate in creating opportunities for capable and hardworking citizens, regardless of physical challenges, noting that “there is always ability in every disability.”
Ms. Idahosa’s journey is marked by resilience and determination. Diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, a severe spinal condition, she dropped out of school in Junior Secondary School Three and spent thirteen years at home. Her story took a positive turn when the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities intervened by providing a wheelchair and supporting her return to formal education.
With this support, she gained admission to study Law at the University of Benin, graduating with a Second Class Upper Division in 2023. She proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2024, successfully completed her Bar Finals, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.
Governor Okpebholo’s approval of her appointment has been widely praised as a practical example of inclusive governance and a strong signal of the Edo State Government’s commitment to fairness, diversity, and social justice.
