Edo State Government, yesterday, reiterated its commitment to putting in place policies and programmes to enable persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the state realise their potential.
The state’s Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, gave the assurance when he received members and executives of the Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, on a courtesy visit to Government House, Benin City.
Okungbowa, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Priscila Aziegbemin, stated that the state government would continue to embark on far-reaching reforms and programmes in every sector of the state to ensure the protection of rights and provision of economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.
MEANWHILE, wife of Edo State governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, yesterday, lauded the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for various intervention programmes in the state.
Obaseki gave the commendation when she received the USAID Care and Treatment Team Lead, Dolapo Ogundehin, who visited.
She said: “I am very pleased and impressed with the work USAID is doing in alleviating the pains of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world, Nigeria and particularly, in Edo.
“Your support for those who need help and the less-privileged is highly commendable. We appreciate you for the intervention and collaboration the agency is bringing to our people in Nigeria to help us govern better and deliver what it is supposed to deliver to its people.”
Earlier, Dolapo Ogundehin, USAID Care and Treatment Team Lead commended the state for its support over the past 18 years it operated in the state.
