Umuhia — As Governor Alex C. Otti marks his second year in office, the Abia State Disability Community has praised his administration for what they describe as “two years of access, equal opportunities, and inclusive governance.”
In a congratulatory message signed by David O. Anyaele, Chairman of the Abia State Disability Commission, the community expressed appreciation for Governor Otti’s unwavering commitment to disability inclusion across all sectors of the state’s development.
According to Anyaele, the governor’s administration has taken groundbreaking steps toward inclusivity, including the establishment of the Abia State Disability Commission and the South East Zonal Office of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities. The government has also made significant appointments of persons with disabilities into leadership roles and expanded accessibility infrastructure.
Other initiatives cited include the provision of grants to disability groups, support for the Abia Paralympics, and the approval of the International Para Badminton Championship to be hosted in the state. The government also procured an accessible bus for persons with disabilities and distributed school buses to special schools, while ensuring their inclusion in various government programs and activities.
“Under your leadership, we are witnessing the removal of barriers and the breaking of strongholds against Abians with disabilities,” the statement read. “We can confirm that an inclusive Abia State is clearly achievable. We anticipate a bright future for the state.”
The disability community described these efforts as evidence of a government that listens, acts, and prioritizes equity. The message concluded with heartfelt congratulations to Governor Otti and the people of Abia State.
