The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities has moved to strengthen disability inclusion efforts by seeking collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa.
A delegation from the Commission, led by its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ishaku Adamu, visited the SSA in Abuja on Tuesday. Other members of the team included Mr. Mohammed Abubakar and Mrs. Rebecca Sanusi, both Board Members, as well as Mr. Mohammed Garba, Director of Administration and Finance. They commended the SSA for receiving them warmly despite the short notice.
Mr. Adamu praised the SSA for championing initiatives that have amplified the voice of persons with disabilities across Nigeria. “You have elevated this office to a national reference point for disability advocacy. We are proud of the impact you are making,” he said.
He noted that the visit had two key purposes: to express gratitude for the SSA’s outstanding contributions and to explore areas of partnership that would ensure persons with disabilities in Gombe State benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his response, Hon. Abba Isa thanked the delegation and acknowledged the efforts of the Gombe State Government in advancing disability rights, including establishing the Commission and approving a permanent site for the College of Education Special in Dukku.
He further announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the College of Education Special in Dukku and assured that the Commission would be involved in the implementation process. While congratulating Mr. Adamu on his appointment, he encouraged him to lead with wisdom, discretion, and fairness, describing leadership in the disability community as a task that demands inclusivity and patience.
