Abuja, February 19, 2026 — The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has intensified efforts to promote economic inclusion and self-reliance among over 35 million Nigerians living with disabilities through strategic collaboration with the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programmes (GEEP).
This move was reaffirmed when the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan Burki, led a delegation of management staff on a working visit to the GEEP office at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction headquarters in Abuja.
Hon. Burki stressed that deliberate inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in government empowerment schemes is critical to improving their living conditions, reducing poverty, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
He noted that the Commission is committed to exploring partnerships that will ensure equal access for PWDs to federal empowerment programmes, while also preventing duplication of efforts and ensuring transparency in beneficiary selection.
The NCPWD boss explained that the Commission would take responsibility for mobilising, verifying, and registering eligible applicants to guarantee that genuine beneficiaries benefit from the initiatives.
In his remarks, the National Programme Manager of GEEP, Mr. Hamza Ibrahim Baba, commended the Commission for the engagement and reiterated the programme’s mandate to uplift women, youths, and vulnerable populations in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He disclosed that GEEP operates three core schemes — FarmerMoni, MarketMoni, and TraderMoni — designed to provide interest-free loans to small-scale entrepreneurs and farmers nationwide.
According to him, current funding is focused mainly on FarmerMoni, encouraging persons with disabilities engaged in agriculture to apply through the official online platform. He added that beneficiaries would access the loans through cooperatives, with repayment spread over one year after a three-month moratorium.
Both organisations pledged sustained collaboration to ensure expanded access to economic opportunities, improved livelihoods, and greater social inclusion for persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
