The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has called for strategic collaboration with development partners to strengthen disability data management in the country.
The commission said the initiative, driven by its Planning, Research and Statistics Department, aims to conduct a comprehensive situational analysis to improve the collection, coordination and management of disability data for better policy planning and inclusive development.
Executive Secretary of the commission, Ayuba Burki Gufwan, stressed that reliable disability data is critical for designing effective programmes and ensuring that persons with disabilities are adequately captured in national development frameworks. He noted that the proposed situational analysis would help address existing gaps in disability data management systems.
The commission also urged international development organisations such as Sightsavers, CBM Global Disability Inclusion and the United Nations system to partner in the initiative, noting that the collaboration would strengthen capacity, enhance data-driven advocacy and support more effective policy implementation aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
