The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has called for stronger collaboration with development partners to improve disability data management in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ayuba Burki Gufwan, said reliable disability data is essential for effective policy formulation, programme design and ensuring that persons with disabilities are properly captured in national development frameworks.
Gufwan explained that the Commission, through its Planning, Research and Statistics Department, plans to conduct a comprehensive situational analysis aimed at strengthening data collection, coordination and management systems across the disability sector. He urged international development organisations present at the meeting, to support the initiative.
According to the Commission, the proposed collaboration will help identify existing gaps, build institutional capacity and develop a coordinated framework for disability data management to enhance evidence-based advocacy and policy implementation in Nigeria. The initiative, NCPWD noted, is ultimately aimed at improving programmes and outcomes for persons with disabilities across the country.
