The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC), Hon. Saleh Barde Keana received in audience the Founder of LionHeart Ability Leaders International Foundation, Abuja, Mr. Solomon Okelola Olakunle.

Welcoming the guest, Hon. Keana expressed his gratitude to LionHeart Ability Leaders International Foundation for identifying with the Commission and commended their commitment to promoting disability inclusion across Nigeria. He noted that the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission remains open to strategic partnerships that advance the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

In his remarks, Mr. Solomon Okelola Olakunle explained that the core mission of his foundation is to identify persons with DeafBlindness and provide them with targeted support. He disclosed plans to collaborate with the Commission to train selected individuals in Nasarawa State who will, in turn, teach persons with DeafBlindness how to read, use sign language, and communicate effectively.

He further emphasized the need to review the existing disability law to formally recognize DeafBlind persons as a distinct cluster within the PWD community, ensuring their rights and inclusion are protected.

Responding, Hon. Keana commended Mr. Olakunle for his dedication and consistent advocacy for the recognition of persons with DeafBlindness in Nigeria. He assured that the Commission would work towards amending the state’s disability law to include this group, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of a proposal and partnership documents to the Executive Chairman by the visiting foundation.
