The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has partnered with the Empowering Abilities Through Inclusive Pages (EATIP) initiative to promote inclusive education and create opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities across Nigeria.
At a meeting held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Barr. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, received the EATIP team, led by Praise Akobo, Executive Director of YieldUp Development Initiative (YDI) — an organisation dedicated to bridging the gaps in literacy, accessibility, and inclusion through education, creativity, advocacy, technology, and therapy.
EATIP, supported by the Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) in collaboration with the School for the Blind and Zamarr Institute, Jabi, Abuja, is working to strengthen the implementation of inclusive education through the Universal Design for Learning model. The initiative also plans to launch a new book titled “Awakening Possibilities in Disabilities”, for which it has sought the Commission’s technical assistance in printing Braille versions and providing assistive learning devices.
Commending the group’s efforts, Barr. Gufwan lauded their contributions toward promoting accessibility and empowerment, emphasizing that achieving inclusion requires collective national action.
“The task of pulling members of the disability community out of deprivation and discrimination cannot be left to the Commission alone. Every Nigerian has a role to play,” he stated.
He assured the EATIP team of the Commission’s support and encouraged Nigerians to contribute to building a nation where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive.
The meeting concluded with the formal presentation of the EATIP document, “Abilities Through Inclusive Pages”, to the Executive Secretary.
