Gombe – The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) has distributed mobility devices to students with disabilities across the state through a partnership with the Qatar Charity Organisation, as part of ongoing efforts to promote inclusive education and independence for learners with disabilities.
The assistive devices, which include electric wheelchairs and white canes, were allocated to students with physical and visual impairments to enhance access to education and improve their quality of life.
The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ishiyaku Adamu, commended Qatar Charity for what he described as a significant humanitarian intervention that aligns with the state’s commitment to disability inclusion. He praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for establishing the Commission and for his consistent support to persons with disabilities in Gombe State.
“These devices are valuable and life-changing. Beneficiaries must handle them with care, make the best use of them, and keep praying for our partners and our Governor, who has remained a true friend of persons with disabilities,” Adamu stated.
One of the parents of the beneficiaries, Aishatu Aliyu Usman, expressed her appreciation, explaining that the donation has brought relief to her family. She said her daughter, Khadija, could not previously use a manual wheelchair and the family could not afford an electric one.
“This is truly a dream come true. For years, I carried my daughter on my back. Today, we received an electric wheelchair free of charge. It is a life-changer for our family. We thank the GSCPWD and Qatar Charity for bringing hope and dignity back into our lives,” she said.
Adamu added that more support initiatives are underway to cater to other disability groups through appropriate empowerment tools and assistive technologies.
The partnership, he said, demonstrates the state government’s continued commitment to fostering a more inclusive and empowered society for all residents of Gombe State living with disabilities.
