The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) is forging a strategic partnership with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) to expand digital transformation initiatives that will promote full inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
This development was confirmed during a courtesy visit by the NCPWD leadership to DBI headquarters in Abuja, where both institutions agreed to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Leading the NCPWD delegation, Executive Secretary Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan highlighted the importance of harnessing digital innovation to remove barriers that have long hindered the progress of persons with disabilities. He identified digital literacy, identity verification, certification, and equitable access to opportunities as central to the Commission’s strategic focus.
“We need to ensure that our community is digitally empowered, equipped, and included in the opportunities available through technology. Our vision is to create a Nigeria where disability is not a barrier to innovation, productivity, or national contribution,” Chief Gufwan said.
Chief Gufwan further commended DBI’s inclusive track record, noting the positive feedback received nationwide regarding the Institute’s integration of persons with disabilities in its training programmes.
In response, DBI President/CEO Mr. David Daser described the collaboration as a timely step, assuring that the Institute has the technical expertise to support the Commission. He stressed that the MoU would help streamline engagements, particularly in combating impersonation of persons with disabilities, strengthening identification systems, and expanding digital literacy.
Mr. Daser further pledged that DBI would design and implement tailored interventions to ensure equitable participation of persons with disabilities in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of both organizations, including compliance, legal, social integration, and corporate service directors.
This partnership reflects NCPWD’s broader mission to strengthen institutional collaboration, dismantle systemic barriers, and build an inclusive society where persons with disabilities can thrive as equal contributors to national development.
