The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD), in collaboration with the Executive Chairman of Gombe Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Barrister A.A. Sani Haruna, has provided cash assistance and mobility aids to orphans with disabilities across Gombe State as part of activities marking the Ramadan season.

The intervention, carried out on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, was designed to support the beneficiaries ahead of the Sallah celebration, enabling them to purchase clothes, shoes, and other essential items. The initiative aims to ensure that orphans with disabilities celebrate the festive period with dignity, happiness, and a sense of belonging.

Selected beneficiaries received cash support in the presence of their caregivers and guardians, while some students with severe mobility challenges from Jauro Tudun Wada Junior Secondary School were provided with crutches to improve their movement to and from school.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of GSCPWD, Ishiyaku Adamu, commended Barrister Haruna for his compassionate gesture, noting that it reflects a strong commitment to inclusion and social protection. He reiterated the Commission’s dedication to the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities and encouraged families to prioritize education, in line with the provisions of the state’s disability law supported by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Also speaking, the Principal of the school, Hajiya Zulaihatu, expressed appreciation for the intervention, highlighting the challenges faced by students with disabilities and noting that the support would enhance their learning experience.

A representative of the beneficiaries, Mama Ismail, thanked the donors and offered prayers for continued blessings, assuring that the assistance would be used for the wellbeing of the children.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with stakeholders to improve the lives of persons with disabilities across the state.
