The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC), Hon. Saleh Barde Keana, has called for special recognition and enrollment of girls with disabilities in schools across the state.
Hon. Barde Keana made the appeal during the launch of the Nasarawa State Policy on Gender in Education organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with AGILE at Jibrin Ahmed Hall, Science School Lafia.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman commended the Ministry and AGILE for championing gender equality in education but emphasized that true inclusivity can only be achieved when girls with disabilities are not left behind. He stressed that education remains the right of every child, including those with disabilities, and urged that deliberate efforts be made to ensure their access to quality learning.
Hon. Barde Keana further called for collaboration between AGILE and the NSDRC to develop a disability-inclusive education policy that would address the unique challenges faced by girls with disabilities and bridge existing gaps in educational opportunities.
