The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC), Hon. Saleh Barde Keana, on Thursday, February 6, led members of the management team and ex-officio members of the commission on a courtesy and appreciation visit to Governor Abdullahi A. Sule at the Government House, Lafia.
The visit was aimed at expressing gratitude to the Governor for the establishment of the Disability Rights Commission and for the inclusive appointments of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to manage the affairs of the commission.
Hon. Keana commended Governor Sule for his unwavering commitment to disability inclusion, describing him as a disability-friendly and inclusive leader. He congratulated the Governor on the remarkable milestones recorded in advancing the rights and welfare of PWDs across Nasarawa State.
Highlighting some of the Governor’s achievements, the NSDRC Chairman noted the drilling of boreholes at Gidan Makafi and Gidan Kutare in Agwan Jaba, provision of free education for persons with disabilities, and sustained medical support for ailing PWDs, among other interventions.
He further announced that Nasarawa State currently ranks second nationwide in disability inclusion, behind Lagos State, attributing this achievement to Governor Sule’s exemplary leadership and commitment to championing disability issues.
Hon. Keana also briefed the Governor on plans by the commission to organize the first Nasarawa State Disability Summit in 2026, while outlining key challenges confronting the commission. These include the lack of official and utility vehicles, the need for increased employment opportunities for PWDs, fencing of zonal offices, and provision of essential office equipment.
In his response, Governor Abdullahi Sule commended the leadership of the commission for their dedication and pledged his continued support towards promoting equal opportunities and inclusive development for persons with disabilities in the state.
The appreciation visit marked the first official engagement between the NSDRC leadership and the Governor since the commission’s inception.
