Disability Agency Provides Financial Aid to Homes Supporting Persons with Disabilities

by Sejoro Ekundayo

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) by providing financial support to homes that cater to their unique needs. This initiative aims to ensure smooth operations and address the medical challenges often faced by PWDs across Lagos State.

Speaking at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, highlighted the state’s unwavering dedication to promoting inclusivity and addressing the needs of every individual, regardless of ability.

Over the years, LASODA has cultivated partnerships with disability groups and nonprofit home operators, bolstering their efforts to provide care and support. Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal noted,

“We are presenting support to individuals and nonprofit homes that are registered with LASODA. Currently, over 80 homes are part of our registry, and we are committed to providing staggered assistance to ensure sustainability. Additionally, we are offering financial aid to individuals requiring medical procedures.”

She called on the public to support policies that prioritize PWDs, emphasizing the administration’s determination to foster an inclusive society. “We hope to secure corporate partnerships to further enhance the lives of PWDs, whether as individuals or children living in homes run by compassionate caregivers who have taken them off the streets. LASODA will continue to extend support within its capacity,” she added.

Among the beneficiaries of this initiative are the Festus Fajemilo Foundation, Glamour Special School, Out of School Children, Lady Atinuke, Patrick Speech and Language Centre, and Diamond Center for Children with Disabilities. This funding represents a significant step toward ensuring that PWDs receive the care and attention they deserve.
