Disability Agency Calls for Greater Inclusion, Diversity in Public Service Training Curriculum

by Inclusive News Network

The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, has called on the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) to integrate inclusion and diversity into its training curriculum. She stressed that disability-related discussions must become a core focus in all sectors of society.

During a courtesy visit to the Centre in Magodo on March 3, 2025, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal underscored the need for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize inclusion. She pointed out that government institutions should take the lead in fostering inclusivity before extending these efforts across Lagos State and beyond.

As part of its commitment to empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs), LASODA recently provided work tools to civil servants with disabilities, including laptops with speech-assisted software (Freedom Scientific Version 2024) for the visually impaired, calipers, and motorized wheelchairs. These tools aim to enhance productivity while reinforcing the message that PWDs can significantly contribute to the workforce when adequately supported.

Commending the PSSDC for installing ramps to improve accessibility, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal acknowledged the Centre’s dedication to meeting the needs of the disability community.

In response, the Director General of PSSDC, Mr. Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, announced the establishment of a new department focused on promoting inclusion. He assured LASODA of the Centre’s commitment to working closely with its team, assigning a department head and another director to help develop a comprehensive disability-focused training curriculum.
