The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, has praised disability advocate and author, Anifat Sadu, for transforming her personal experiences into a compelling advocacy resource that promotes greater awareness on disability inclusion and mental health.

Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal gave the commendation on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while delivering the keynote address and reviewing Sadu’s new book titled Through the Layers: A Journey with Two Disorders. The launch held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja, and doubled as a Cerebral Palsy Awareness event.

The gathering brought together disability advocates, professionals, and families to celebrate resilience and amplify calls for improved inclusion for persons with disabilities.

Describing the publication as more than a personal memoir, the LASODA General Manager referred to it as a “national resource that deserves to be on the desk of every policymaker serious about disability inclusion in Nigeria.” She stated that Sadu’s courageous storytelling offers profound insight into the physical and emotional realities of living with Cerebral Palsy and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

According to her, the book sheds light on systemic barriers in healthcare and education, while demonstrating the power of faith, perseverance, and advocacy in shaping a more inclusive society.

“Anifat Sadu has not just written a book; she has offered a testimony, one that reminds us that even when faced with unimaginable pain, one can rise, find purpose, and turn adversity into advocacy,” Oyetunde-Lawal said.

The event also featured a panel session with experts including Ayooluwa Oni, Adebolu Adejobi, Dare Dairo, Olaitan Akinlosa, Shakirah Olajobi, and Nafisah Ogunbona. Guest Speaker, Tobiloba Ajayi, delivered an inspiring message focused on resilience and advancing disability inclusion nationwide.
