The President and CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Mr. David Daser, has called for urgent policy action to ensure digital inclusion for the over 35 million Nigerians with disabilities. Daser made this call during a sensitization workshop themed “Digital Citizenship for Persons with Disabilities,” organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Daser stressed the importance of inclusive policies that eliminate barriers to digital education, employment, and access to technology for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). He emphasized that as digital technologies become central to every aspect of life—education, health, governance, and the economy—no one, especially PWDs, should be left behind.
“Inclusion is not a favour. It is justice,” Daser declared, noting that digital empowerment for PWDs involves more than just providing access to technology—it also requires skills development, supportive systems, and inclusive digital design. He praised the NCC for organizing the workshop and for its ongoing efforts to promote human-centered development through regulatory foresight.
Highlighting DBI’s commitment to inclusive digital education, Daser revealed that the institute, in collaboration with organizations like Sightsavers, has integrated disability inclusion into its training programmes. “We are not merely a training institution—we are a bridge to inclusion,” he said. He urged all stakeholders—regulators, educators, the private sector, and civil society—to treat digital inclusion not as an option, but as an obligation.
Also speaking at the event, NCC’s Director of Digital Economy, Mrs. Olatokunbo Oyeleye, emphasized that the workshop was designed not just for discussion but for action. She encouraged participants to apply what they had learned to impact their communities, noting that digital skills are vital in all areas of human endeavor.
