The Bauchi State Association of the Deaf (BSAD) has successfully conducted its 2026 leadership election in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere at Government Girls’ Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Sabon Gari, Misau Local Government Area, on March 28, 2026.
The electoral exercise commenced with an opening prayer at 12:30 p.m. and concluded at about 6:00 p.m. with the announcement of results, following a structured process that included screening of contestants, voting, and counting of ballots.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Nuraddeen Muhammad, outlined the guidelines for the election and assured members of a free, fair, and transparent process. He noted that the exercise would strictly adhere to the association’s constitution, emphasizing proper screening of contestants and orderly voting procedures.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Ismail Abdullahi, urged members to vote for leaders of their choice, stressing that the election should not be treated as a do-or-die affair. He appreciated the presence of the North-East Zonal Coordinator for attending the exercise.
In his address, the North-East Zonal Coordinator, Bashir Usman Kellumi, welcomed dignitaries, security personnel, and participants, while commending members for their support throughout his administration. He reaffirmed the importance of adhering to the constitution and praised the Board of Trustees for upholding due process, assuring members that all complaints would be handled fairly.
The National Chief Whip, Nasiru Dalha, who was also present, said he adjusted his schedule to attend the election, describing the association as a family. He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration for growth and development, while advising aspirants to resolve any outstanding issues before contesting positions.
During the exercise, a complaint was raised by the leader of the CF-T group, Malam Garba Abubakar, challenging his disqualification. However, the BoT Secretary maintained that the decision was based on his failure to properly hand over leadership and other related issues. In his final position, the Zonal Coordinator stated that ignorance of the constitution is not an excuse and advised the aggrieved party to seek legal redress if dissatisfied.
The election was conducted under the supervision of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tasiu Zubairu; Secretary General, Ismail Abdullahi; Alhamdu Yakubu; and representatives of the Nigeria National Association of the Deaf (NNAD), including Assistant Secretary General Sagir Ibrahim Tilde (Bauchi), National Chief Whip Nasir Usman (Katsina), and North-East Coordinator Bashir Usman Kellumi (Gombe). Representatives from the Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Bauchi State Chapter, were also in attendance.
Announcing the results, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Nuraddeen Muhammad, declared Suleiman Ahmad as Chairman, having been elected unopposed.
Safiyanu Sahu emerged as Deputy Chairman with 72 votes, defeating Idris Saidu, who polled 45 votes, with seven invalid votes recorded. Dayyabu Tanimu Azare won the position of Secretary General with 79 votes, while Abdullahi M. Mijinyawa secured 42 votes, with four invalid votes.
Ahmad Liman emerged as Assistant Secretary unopposed, while Bello Musa Aliyu was elected Treasurer with 73 votes against Hassan Muhammad’s 47 votes, with two invalid votes recorded. Abdullahi Umar Badel won the position of Financial Secretary with 66 votes, defeating Al’Amin Musa Dambam, who scored 50 votes, with three invalid votes. Muhammad Auwal was elected Public Relations Officer unopposed.
For the position of Organizing Secretary, Dauda Yunusa secured victory with 52 votes, followed by Muhammad Inuwa Na’ibi with 41 votes and Idris Usman with 29 votes, with one invalid vote recorded. Usman Isah won the position of Auditor with 81 votes against Hassan Musa Dambam’s 39 votes, while Afidara Simon Bogoro emerged as Chief Whip with 81 votes, defeating Lala Usman Azare, who polled 38 votes, with four invalid votes recorded.
Hauwa Ibrahim was elected Women Leader unopposed, while Abubakar Haruna won the Youth Leader position with 62 votes, narrowly defeating Mubarak Zubairu, who scored 61 votes, with three invalid votes recorded. Blessing Nuhu emerged as Social Secretary I with 73 votes against Danladi Musa’s 44 votes, while Aishatu Ahmed Ladan was elected Social Secretary II unopposed.
In the zonal coordinator elections, Wadata Adamu won the North Zone with 30 votes against Aliyu Umar Atafowa’s 11 votes, with three invalid votes recorded. Aminu Yahaya secured the Central Zone position with 20 votes, defeating Dayyabu Shehu Ranga, who polled 15 votes, with one invalid vote recorded. Abdul Jabbar Musa emerged winner for the South Zone with 33 votes against Aliyu Mohammed’s 11 votes, with one invalid vote recorded.
The election, which witnessed active participation from members across the state, ended peacefully, with stakeholders commending the transparency, organization, and credibility of the process.
