by Inclusive News Network

The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting disability-inclusive climate governance in Abia State following a strategic visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Philimon Asonye Ogbonna, on November 21, 2025.

The visit was aimed at deepening collaboration on the development and implementation of the state’s disability-inclusive climate change draft policy. During the meeting, the Commissioner commended CCD for its consistency in climate advocacy and reiterated the Ministry’s determination to ensure the full inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in all climate-related processes and interventions across the state.

Hon. Ogbonna also highlighted Abia State’s improved ranking in climate performance and emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that no segment of society would be left behind in the implementation of climate initiatives.

Speaking during the engagement, CCD’s Acting Director, Mr. Godwin Unmeri, outlined the purpose of the visit and expressed the organisation’s readiness to support the policy validation process by sponsoring 40 Persons with Disabilities to participate in the upcoming stakeholders’ validation session.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening partnership and advancing an inclusive, disability-responsive climate governance framework in Abia State.
