Centre, Disability Rights Commission Strengthen Partnership on Inclusion

by Inclusive News Network

The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has pledged stronger collaboration with the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC) to promote inclusion and protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

On August 19, 2025, the Commission’s Chairman, Honourable Saleh Barde Keana, led a four-member team on a courtesy and partnership visit to CCD’s office in Abuja. They were warmly received by Mrs. Peace Ezekiel, who led the CCD team.

Speaking during the meeting, Abubakar A. Khalifa, Technical Assistant to the NSDRC Chairman, said the visit was aimed at deepening cooperation with development partners like CCD. He noted that such collaboration would strengthen support systems for persons with disabilities in Nasarawa State, particularly in preventing violence and discrimination.

Khalifa appealed for CCD’s technical support in areas such as capacity building, digital literacy training, and aligning the Commission’s staff with international best practices.

In her response, Mrs. Ezekiel commended the Commission for recognizing CCD’s work, stressing that capacity building remains a top priority for the organisation. She highlighted CCD’s ongoing projects, including advocacy around the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, which seeks to address the exclusion of persons with disabilities from its benefits. According to her, CCD recently trained stakeholders across nine Niger Delta states and produced state-specific demand charters that will be harmonised at a national dialogue.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to jointly implementing initiatives that advance inclusion, empowerment, and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in Nasarawa State.
