Bindawa Appeals for Review of Employment Criteria for Persons with Disabilities in Katsina

Hon. Umar Jibril Bindawa, the Special Assistant to the Katsina State Governor on Disabled Matters, has appealed to the state government to reconsider the eligibility criteria set for employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Bindawa, in a letter addressed to the Katsina State Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE), Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, expressed concern over the requirement that only First-Class degree holders from the disability community could apply for immediate employment.

He noted that while the initiative to provide job opportunities for persons with disabilities is commendable, the majority of graduates within the disability community in Katsina State hold Second-Class Upper and Second-Class Lower division degrees, with very few attaining First-Class.

The Governor’s aide therefore urged the Commissioner to adjust the criteria to include graduates with Second-Class degrees, stressing that such a step would ensure wider participation and enable more qualified persons with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

Bindawa concluded by expressing optimism that the government would give the request due consideration in the spirit of inclusion and fairness.
