Bauchi State has taken a historic step as the first state in Northern Nigeria to inaugurate a Disability Inclusion Technical Working Group (DITWG), a collaborative platform designed to ensure that no person with disability is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
The 36-member group—supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)—brings together government agencies, disability advocates, and civil society organizations to drive inclusive policies on education, accessible infrastructure, healthcare, and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Executive Secretary of the Agency for Persons with Disability, Mrs. Brisca Jerome Aaron, said the initiative would strengthen policies and programmes that promote equality and empowerment across the state.
“Bauchi, being the first to inaugurate such a committee, will serve as a reference point for other states,” Aaron stated.
Representatives of UNFPA commended the Bauchi State Government for its leadership, describing the development as a milestone in advancing inclusion and human rights across Nigeria.
