In a significant move aimed at enhancing the educational standard for students with disabilities, the Bauchi state government has transferred the activities of the special education school, Yelwa, from the Ministry of Education to the State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA) under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development.
During the official handing over ceremony held at the State Ministry of Education conference hall, Hajiya Jamila Dahiru, the State Commissioner of Education, opined that the transfer is intended to improve the management and subsequently uplift the educational standard of students in the state, particularly those who are less advantaged.

Representing the commissioner, Alhaji Adamu Zakari, the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Education, reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in the state, irrespective of their status, receives equal and qualitative education.
The State Commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Hajara Jibrin Gidado, assured of her ministry’s dedication to complement the efforts of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed towards improving the education of children with special needs in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bello Abdullahi, who represented the honorable commissioner commended the foresight of the state government in elevating the educational standard in the state.
The state government’s initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the educational sector and provide enhanced educational opportunities for children with disabilities in the state.
