The member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has donated 100 wheelchairs to 100 people with disabilities in Gamawa LGA of Bauchi State to easy their mobility.

Speaking during the presentation of the hand-powered tricycles on Friday, the Corps member with badge number BA/23A/3158, Khadija Lukman said that the gesture was a result of her pledge while in school to help people with disabilities.

She explained that the wheelchairs were not given to the beneficiaries to encourage street begging, rather they were to aid their movement while engaging in productive activities.

Khadija Lukman added that, “These wheelchairs are to aid them in their movements in going to school, places of work or worship and to go and learn a trade so that they won’t be a burden to themselves or to the society.”

“I would like to urge the beneficiaries not to give up on life and aspire for whatever they would like to be,” she said.

She also explained that the project was sponsored by Barr Ayuba Gufwan, the Director of the Beautiful Gate Handicap Center,Jos, Plateau state.

Also, the Bauchi state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, lauded the corps member for embarking on a project that brings succour to people with disabilities.

She appealed to philanthropists, government and other well-to-do members of the society to encourage corps members willing to execute community development projects with sponsorship to enable them to actualise the third stage of the national service.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others, appreciated the corps member, the NYSC and the sponsor of the project, praying to God to grant them success in whatever they do.

The corps member had also trained 100 youths in the LGA on production of body spray, liquid soap, baseline and room freshener, among others.
