Bala Calls for Greater Investment in Women with Disabilities

by Inclusive News Network

A disability rights advocate in Kano, Dr. Binta Bala has called for stronger support and investment in women, particularly those with disabilities, to accelerate inclusive development.

In a statement issued on International Women’s Day, Dr. Bala said empowering women remains critical to building a more equitable and progressive society.

Dr. Bala, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Futureedged Educational and Entrepreneurship Foundation, said the 2026 theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” reflects the urgent need to expand opportunities for women and girls.

She noted that her personal journey of overcoming barriers to become a pioneer PhD holder among women with disabilities in Kano has strengthened her commitment to advocating for disability inclusion.
According to her, disability should not be viewed as a limitation but as a unique perspective that can contribute meaningfully to society.

She explained that through the foundation, efforts are ongoing to provide accessible education, mentorship and entrepreneurial support aimed at equipping women—especially those with disabilities—with the skills needed to succeed.

Dr. Bala also urged parents, government institutions and non-governmental organisations to work together to create more opportunities for women with disabilities to lead and thrive. She added that collective action would help accelerate progress and build a more inclusive future for women in Nigeria and beyond.
