Persons with Disabilities under the platform of Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry chapter have commended the All Progressive Congress (APC) for including their members in appointments and other activities in Wards and Local Government Areas in Badagry.
The group made the commendations in a live interview with Devoice Newspapers.
Public Relations Officer of the association, Sejoro Ekundayo, lauded APC for doing the right thing by appointing persons with disabilities at all levels of Government.
He said “We appreciate the All Progressive Congress, APC, for doing the right thing in appointing some of us to represent them in each ward and local Government in Badagry. That is laudable.”
Mr Sejoro however urged the ruling party to take the commendable gesture a notch further by appointing Persons with Disabilities as special assistants to the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.
The Public Relations expert lamented that Persons with Disabilities in Badagry suffer many times what other vulnerable groups face in other areas. According to him, these people were worse hit during the COVID-19 pandemic as they were not considered for empowerment and employment.
In his words, “even several NGOs are not helping matters. We have witnessed several NGOs organizing events and neglecting PWDs”.
Chairman of the Association, Raji Barnabas also heaped praise on the APC for inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
“APC really tried in that aspect, Barnabas says. But we want them to do more.
“They should consider involving us in everything they do because we are also human beings living in the same society with others who have benefited from the politicians.
“We are also members of the party and our votes count during elections. We always go out en masse to vote for candidates of the ruling party in Lagos State.”
The Association’s Chairman also had words of praise for Real Act of Kindness (RAK) for celebrating the International day of Persons with Disabilities with Badagry PWDs – in partnership with Ability in Disability Empowerment Initiative two years ago.
