AWWDI Board Member commemorates International Wheelchair Day with Women with Disabilities in Abuja

In commemoration of the International Wheelchair Day, a board member of Advocacy For Women With Disability Initiative (AWWDI), Mrs Maryanne Moghalu has reached out to Women with Disabilities in the Nation’s capital city, donating a wheelchair.

The International Wheelchair Day is marked on the 1st March every year. On this day, events and activities are organized the world over to celebrate the positive impact of a wheelchair in the lives of users.

First launched in 2008, special celebrations have taken place in Australia, Nepal, Senegal, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The annual celebration has grown over the years. This year, Nigeria joined the world to commemorate the day. The Abuja commemoration by AWWDI was held at Dennis hotel. Participants had open discussion with AWWDI Board Member Mrs Maryanne Moghalu.

Women with Disabilities present at the event had opportunity to share personal experiences on related issues while also proffering ideas for more inclusive policies and programs.

Mrs Moghalu had encomiums lavished on for the wonderful Initiative.

Also speaking on behalf of Women with Disabilities present, the Executive Director of AWWDI, Patience Ogolo-Dickson, appreciated Mrs Moghalu for her kindness in organizing the event to commemorate the day with the Women.

INN learnt that a wheelchair was donated by Mrs. Moghalu on the occasion.
