Appoint PWDs as Special Assistants on Disability Matters, Anambra JONAPWD Urges LGA Leaders

by Inclusive News Network

The Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, Ugochukwu Ernest C. Okeke, has called on Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen and Councillors to appoint persons with disabilities (PWDs) as special assistants on disability issues.

In a statement released on Saturday, Okeke congratulated the newly elected LGA Chairmen and Councillors, urging them to embrace inclusivity in governance.

“As you embark on this important journey, we encourage you to champion inclusivity and representation for every member of our society. We respectfully request the appointment of persons with disabilities as Special Assistants on disability matters. Their valuable insights and firsthand experiences will greatly enhance the policymaking process, ensuring the needs of PWDs are effectively addressed.

“Involving persons with disabilities in decision-making not only upholds equity and justice but also empowers a vital part of our community, whose contributions can significantly enrich governance. This will also help meet the requirements of Section 52, Subsection 1 of the Anambra State Disability Rights Law, 2018, which promotes the full participation of PWDs in public life and politics.

“We are optimistic that, under your leadership, we can create inclusive, accessible communities across our local government areas. We wish you success in your new roles and anticipate positive changes.”
