The All Progressive Congress (APC) has admitted people with disabilities into its instituted National Convention Committee with the likes of Alhaji Usman Nahuche and Mr James Lalu etc as persons with disabilities within the committee, INN reports
Information available to INN showed that the inauguration ceremony of APC National Convention Committee, under the Chairmanship of Jigawa state governor, had four PWD representatives in the persons of Usman A. Nahuche, Danjuma Atta, David James Lalu and Jaja Opata according to Haruna Tsafe, the national secretary of APC PWD Support Group.
INN gathered, according to Alhaji Nahuche, the chairman of the PWD delegate, that the task of the committee is similar to all the committee members as spelt out in Terms of Reference but as representatives of PWDs they are to ensure disability friendly policy are implemented in all ramifications.
While enjoining people with disabilities to take active part in politics, Alhaji Nahuche told INN correspondence saying, “Pwds should join politics if we want to progress from the current situation we are in as nobody will give you anything on a platter of gold. I and few others joined APC and set up Deaf wing and got recognised along with other group headed by Physically challenged after elections the Party hierarchy invited us to a round table and requested us to merge and form PWD wing which we successfully did and we’re given full recognition and an office also we were added into the constitution of the party with elective positions under the party NEC. You see with this development it will expose us and give us opportunities to contest in elections at all levels”.
He said that his appointment and others from PWD into the party National Convention is a testimony of bright future for the people with disabilities in the area of politics my hope and prayer is that one day we may have one of us as President.
“I and other disabled members plan is to showcase our abilities because most of the populace are yet to understand that there is ability in disability for example Gov Okorocha asked how they’ll communicate with us the Deaf and how will we understand them we told him it is easy since our interpreter is around. Mark you many in the committee have been impressed by our contribution during meetings and there are some who have approached our interpreter telling him they want to learn sign language”, he expunged.
INN also learnt that Misbahu Lawan Didi is the national disabled leader of APC and also one of the National Working Committee who is also the National Coordinator of APC PWD Support Group.
