The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill prohibiting all forms of discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The bill repeals the Adamawa State Disability Rights Commission Law No. 14 of 2016 and replaces it with the Adamawa State Persons with Disabilities Commission Law. Its primary aim is to ensure the full integration of PWDs into society while explicitly outlawing discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
Alongside this bill, the Assembly also passed three others addressing climate change action, road safety, and public procurement reforms.
The bills, sponsored by the member representing Mubi South Constituency, Yohanna Sahabo Jauro, were passed following separate motions moved by the Majority Leader and representative of Demsa Constituency, Kate Mamuno Raymond.
Following their passage, the Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley, directed the Clerk of the Assembly to prepare clean copies for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s assent, bringing them closer to becoming law.
