Abia State has declared its readiness to host Para-Badminton athletes from across Africa and beyond for the maiden edition of the Abia Para-Badminton International and the All African Para-Badminton Championships.
Speaking at the Media and Marketing Reveal of the event, scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 12, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, the Deputy Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described the competitions as a historic milestone in the state’s sporting journey.
“These back-to-back world-class events, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), mark a defining moment in our state’s sports history,” he said.
Emetu added that hosting the championships goes beyond sports, serving as a testament to Abia’s capacity, hospitality, and vision.
“This is the first time such high-profile Para-Badminton events will be staged in Nigeria, and their hosting in Abia positions our state not only as a sporting hub but also as a proud member of the global badminton family,” he noted.
He further emphasized that the championships will give Abia an opportunity to demonstrate its organisational excellence, cultural hospitality, and respect for athletes of all abilities.
