The Abia State Commission for the Welfare of the Disabled Persons, has reiterated commitment to support Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) supporting, promoting and providing services to disability communities in the State.
The Chairman of the commission, Mr David Obinna Anyaele said this when “The See Through Humanitarian Foundation” paid a courtesy visit to his office.
Anyaele said that the commission was ready to support organisations that were specifically working to support the state’s disability community.
“The government of Dr Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) is committed to ensuring that the disability community play leadership roles in the society and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) maximises their potentials.
“The governor has demonstrated his friendship with the disability community by appointing a person with disability in his team as a Special Assistant on Persons with Disabilities, and by establishing the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of the Disabled Persons.
“The commission has five persons with disabilities as board members and their duties include advancing the welfare, inclusion, participation, and general well-being of Abians with disabilities and their families.
“I commend your foundation for its vision of empowering the blind community in Abia and I assure you that the commission will support organisations that are specifically working to support the state’s disability community,” he said.
The Chairman urged the foundation to share ideas and recommend areas for possible partnership especially for the training of visually impaired people on assistive technology.
This, he said, was one of the numerous ways to support NGOs and directly impact person’s with visual impairment and their families by creating and providing the platform for them to participate and contribute to the growth of the state.
Anyaele said that the commission was open, accessible and available for collaborations and partnerships for the benefits of person’s with disabilities and order to deliver the Governor’s mandates of ensuring an inclusive Abia State free from discrimination on the grounds of disability
On his part, Mr Ogechukwu Igbeamaghi Kalu, the Executive Director of “The See Through Humanitarian Foundation, congratulated Anyaele on his nomination and appointment as Chairman of the State Disability Commission.
Kalu also commended the Chairman for his efforts in empowering the Disability community and promoting disability rights in the State.
He said that the foundation was ready to support the commission with technical support to enable it deliver on its mandates.
“The See Through Humanitarian Foundation is a non-governmental organisation that offers job training programs and mentorship to people with visual impairments.
“This support is to help persons with visual impairments to reach their full potentials and positively impact society without limitations.
“Our foundation’s goal remains to train and educate visually impaired individuals about assistive technologies, and we are seeking a collaboration with the commission in order to meet this goal, ” he said.
