Disability Empowerment Drive Touches Lives Across Remo Federal Constituency

by Inclusive News Network

Ogun State – Hope came alive for persons with disabilities in Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo-North as Hon. Akinyode Solomon Soyoye, a leading House of Representatives aspirant and founder of the Soyoye Akinyode Welfare Initiatives (SAWI), led a transformative empowerment programme across the three local government areas.

Held on June 25, 2025, the initiative was organised in partnership with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center. It featured the distribution of hundreds of wheelchairs and mobility aids, directly impacting lives and restoring a sense of independence and dignity for beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Soyoye said the programme was part of SAWI’s ongoing commitment to social inclusion and community development. “This is not about donations—it’s about justice, opportunity, and restoring lost dreams,” he said.

Emotions ran high as recipients, many of whom had long struggled with mobility challenges, received the assistive devices. They hailed the intervention as life-changing and long overdue.

The project echoes national and state-level efforts to deepen social equity, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Dapo Abiodun’s I.S.E.Y.A. framework for Ogun State. It also underscores the practical application of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.

Officials from NCPWD described the outreach as a replicable model of collaboration between government and civil society. “This goes beyond empowerment—it reflects a strategic vision for inclusive development,” an NCPWD representative noted.

Through this impactful gesture, Hon. Soyoye and his foundation have once again positioned disability inclusion as a top priority in the region.
