Zamfara State House Of Assembly Holds Public Hearing On Discrimination Against Persons With Disability Bill

The Chairman, House standing Committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Kabiru Magaji kwatarkwashi has called for a Public hearing on the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act 2020.

The bill was sponsored by Hon. Salisu Usman, member representing Zurmi Constituency in the State House of Assembly. Salisu is a Person with Disability.

The bill, having passed its first and second reading on the house floor was put to public hearing yesterday. House members freely debated on suggestions made before proceeding to a 3rd reading after which it will be presented to the Executive.

INN reports that members of Government, Non Government Organizations, public and private sectors, Civil Society Organization, Labour Unions, Students groups, Disabled Associations, traditional rulers, members of religious Organizations, Women groups, The press, and host of others contributed to discussions during the hearing.

The event had in attendance, Speaker of the House, Hon. Nasiru Muaazu Magarya. Other high profile attendees are His Royal Highness Sarkin Zamfara Anka, Alh Attahiru Ahmad, the Emir of Anka, and the Chairman, Zamfara Council of traditional rulers, among others.
