A graduate of Mechanical Engineering, from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, Otunumeruke Joseph is currently seeking help to live a normal life again.
The footballer’s dream of dazzling on the field came to a pause on June 16, 2018 when he had automobile accident, while he was on his way to play a football match at Agbor. “I broke my spinal cord and I’ve been on the wheel ever since,” he said.
Joseph, who also plays musical instruments and currently based in Ughelli, said: “I was rushed to the hospital at Oghara, but they couldn’t treat me, so I was referred to Capital Hill Hospital, in Warri. I did surgery in the hospital, which cost N4.2 million. They used rods and screws to hold the broken spinal cord together. After the surgery, I could only sit. I can’t walk, so I resorted to using the wheelchair.
“After much enquires, we got in contact with an hospital abroad that can treat me and make me walk again, but they are demanding N8.4 million, which I can’t afford.”
He appealed to the general public to help him financially to do the surgery.
