by Inclusive News Network

The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) Vocational Training Centre (VTC) will be raising funds to support its members.

The fund raiser will hold at the Blind Centre/FIIRO, Oshodi, Lagos on October 2, with the theme: “Our story”.

FNSB Chairman, Executive Council, Gbola Sobande, said the event would be a hybrid fundraiser that will be streamed via Zoom and YouTube to support 50 indigent people who have lost their sight with skills acquisition.

The programme is an opportunity to raise awareness on disability rights, showcase its students and the work that the society is doing to support the blind through advocacy work and drive for inclusiveness of persons living with visual impairments as well as celebrate donors.

Usually held in May, due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the Society has been unable to hold the yearly fundraiser.

This year’s event will be enriched with showcasing the group’s former and current trainees, school band as well as a tour of the facilities at the centre to train about 100 people yearly.

“FNSB is excited to be evolving, adapting and embracing the changes caused by the pandemic. It is our aim to continue to use our collective voices to raise as much awareness on the importance of inclusive laws, educational and professional opportunities for person with disabilities,” Sobande said.
